Advanced Forming Research Centre – Complementary

The Advanced Forming Research Centre is a globally-recognised centre of excellence in innovative manufacturing technologies, R&D, and metal forming and forging research and is part of the University of Strathclyde. The centre is involved in world leading metal forming and forging research and is at the heart of manufacturing research and development in Scotland.

The AFRC is located at Inchinnan, close to Glasgow International Airport, some 58 miles (95 km) west of Edinburgh. A coach will be provided from the conference venue, to the company premises and return to conference venue. Please ask when booking the tour if you have onward travel from Glasgow Airport, Glasgow Central railway station or Edinburgh Airport.

ECCC2023 Visit to AFRC arrangements

  3. Tour of the AFRC [Overview, Tour AFRC, Light Lunch/Networking], duration 11:00-13:30.
  4. Return by Coach to The Kimpton Hotel, Edinburgh with expected arrival at 15:00
  5. Ask if you have onward travel from Glasgow Airport, Glasgow Central railway station, or Edinburgh Airport later on the 25th February.

Torness Power Station – Complementary

EDF’s Torness nuclear power station is located approximately 30 miles (50 km) to the east of Edinburgh at Torness Point  in East Lothian, Scotland. Torness was the last of the United Kingdom’s second generation nuclear power plants to be commissioned (25 May 1988). The station consists of two advanced gas-cooled reactors (AGR) capable of producing a peak rating of 1364 MWe.

Access to this station requires security clearance. Please book at least 3 weeks before you visit. You will be contacted by email to provide some identity verification. The minimum age for the station tour is 8 years old. Bookings must be made at least 3 weeks in advance. You will be accompanied by a trained station guide and will include the reactor viewing gallery and the turbine hall. All site tours include a safety and security briefing and the issue of relevant PPE (personal protective equipment).

St Andrews Golf Day – Complementary

The golf day will take place at “The Home of Golf”. Golf has been played at St Andrews Links for 600 years and it has the oldest course in the world, the Old Course. St Andrew’s is situated approximately 55 miles (85 Km) to the north east of Edinburgh. Your invited by Zwick Roell and Severn Thermal Solutions to join them on the Eden Course for a round of golf and hospitality.

A bus will be provided from the conference venue, to St Andrew’s and return to conference venue. It is expected that the day from start to finish will take approximately 10 hours, so leaving at 09:00 delegates can expect to be returned to conference venue by 19:00.
